Full text | Abstract: In this study, a method of preparing fibres of chitosan modified with keratin derived from chicken feathers is presented. Fibre-grade chitosan and an aqueous solution of purified keratin were used in the investigations. The aqueous solution of keratin was added to a 3% solution of chitosan in acetic acid. Properties of the spinning solutions obtained were tested, followed by spinning trials. The fibres of keratin-modified chitosan obtained showed the following properties: tenacity – 13.5 cN/tex, elongation – 33%, wetting angle – 33° and, in comparison to pure chitosan fibres, were less prone to biodegradation under the action of lysozyme enzyme. |
