Abstract: The degumming of Mulberry, Muga, Tasar and Ericream silk substrates was investigated and compared. Experiments were carried out according to the Box-Behnken response surface design. On the basis of weight loss, absorbency, bending length, breaking load, elongation at break and crease recovery, optimum conditions for degumming with soap-soda were determined.
