Abstract: In this paper the phenomena occurring during the impact of a body falling from a height on a layer of fibres submerged in a fluid are studied. The properties of the layer are assumed to be determined by both the bending elasticity of the fibres and the resistance to fluid flow which is squeezed of the layer. It was found that filling the layer with fluid considerably decreases the impact force.
